Bolt on Wall, Fort Union National Monument

Bolt Wall

Bolt Wall

One last image from Fort Union National Monument (but I have soooo many more).  This is a bolt protruding from one of the adobe wall foundations.  I have no idea why it is there, but it is pretty large.

Should you tire of working the adobe walls and chimneys, there are lots of close up detail images available like this one.

While almost in the middle of nowhere, Fort Union is worth a day trip if you happen to be in the Albuquerque area.  While I did not stop there, I have heard from others that Las Vegas NM is a good stop also.

Fort Union National Monument Wagons and Wall

Another image from Fort Union National Monument.  The center courtyard of this set of adobe walls has several old wagons and wheels spread around the grounds.  I suspect that the rangers move these every now and then as this composition does not match the layout in the October 2016 GoogleEarth image.

I actually got lucky while visiting Fort Union in that I had clouds in the sky.  Actually, almost all of my images from this New Mexico Road trip include some clouds, except those taken in the caverns and at night.  This is unusual in that I seem to get stuck with clear blue skies or solid overcast grey skies.  To see what I mean, click here to see blog posts from Nova Scotia.

Chimney Twins, Fort Union National Monument

Here is another image of the remaining chimneys at Fort Union National Monument (click here for another blog entry).  Like the previous blog entry image, this one also has that time marches on quality to it.  The background chimney still has some wall attached while the foreground chimney is bereft of walls.  You can almost imagine this set of chimneys slowly disappearing like a row of dominos.
