This small chapel lies at the end of Ke’anae peninsula. Built in 1856, it was originally known as Lanakila Ihiihi O Iehova O na Kaua Church (Sacredness, Success of Jehova, the Son of God) and is now known as the Ke’anae Congregational Church.

This was the only building left standing on the peninsula when 35 foot waves generated by an 8.6 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Alaska on April 1, 1946. That tsunami completely destroyed the Ke’anae peninsula. It is pretty sobering to stop at the scenic overlook when you turn off the Hana Highway onto Ke’anae Road. Just imagine that whole peninsula being swamped by water…
