I knew that I would convert this image to black and white when I captured it. When converted to black and white, the red items turned grey and ceased to be of interest in the image. So I converted the image to black and white, then used a layer mask to keep the red items red. In this way I was able to get the best of both worlds: the old time feeling of a black and white image, and the visual impact of the red valves and levers.
