Located about one hour from Desert View Watchtower in Grand Canyon National Park, Wupatki National Monument has several ancient pueblos. I made a 30-minute stop here after I left Grand Canyon National Park enroute to Yuma, AZ. In spite of the short visit, I was able to capture some nice images of the Wupatki pueblo. There are several other pueblos in the area which I did not have time to photograph.

This image shows the front of the Wupatki pueblo. The distinctive red color of the Moenkopi sandstone used to construct the pueblos in the area really stand out from the surrounding landscape. This makes the various pueblos within the National Monument area easy to spot in the rolling terrain.
