Blue-Light-Campanile
Campanile di San Marco, Venice Italy (click to enlarge)

Here are two similar images of the Campanile di San Marco in Venice, Italy.  The image on the left was taken first.  Just before taking the image on the right I noticed a gondola coming out from under the bridge I was standing on.  As the gondola cleared the bridge I noticed a small light on the stern.  I held off taking the image until the stern light was fully in the view finder.  Over the 30 second exposure this light developed into a solid line as the gondolier rowed away from the camera.

The long exposure combined with the moving light added another element to the composition of the second image.  The image was taken during the twilight “blue hour” which explains the blue sky around the campanile.

Taken from a bridge along the Calle Riva Carbon on the Canal Grande near the Rialto vaporetto stop.  Image is looking up the Rio de San Salvador.  (N45 26 13.13 E12 20 07.75)
