with Blanton&#8217;s Bourbon Bottle Stoppers (Part 2)"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_975\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-975\" style=\"width: 430px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Three-Stoppers.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-975 \" title=\"Three Nearly Identical Blanton's Stopper Images\" src=\"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Three-Stoppers-1024x501.jpg\" alt=\"Three Nearly Identical Blanton's Stopper Images\" width=\"430\" height=\"211\" srcset=\"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Three-Stoppers-1024x501.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Three-Stoppers-300x147.jpg 300w, https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Three-Stoppers.jpg 1371w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 430px) 100vw, 430px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-975\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Three Nearly Identical Blanton&#8217;s Stopper Images (click to enlarge)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The first problem I ran into was consistency between images.\u00a0 I started with my camera set to Auto White Balance.\u00a0 This created slight differences in light color between images.\u00a0 To achieve color consistency between images, I used my <a title=\"X-Rite ColorChecker Passport\" href=\"http:\/\/xritephoto.com\/ph_product_overview.aspx?id=1257\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">X-Rite ColorChecker<\/a> Passport in a test image.\u00a0 I then used Lightroom to determine the White Balance setting of my lighting set up, which turned out to be 3200K.\u00a0 I set the manual white balance on my camera to 3200K and, viola, consistent white balance between images.<\/p>\n<p>With the front of my lens less than one foot from the stoppers, depth of field became the next issue requiring attention.\u00a0 If I focused on the jockey&#8217;s head, the focus on the front edge of the stopper and the cork would appear soft.\u00a0 So no matter which of those three points I focused on, the other two appear soft.<\/p>\n<p>To address the depth-of-field issue, I took three images of each stopper.\u00a0 Using manual focus, the first image focused on the jockey&#8217;s head.\u00a0 The second image focused on the front edge of the stopper.\u00a0 The final image focused on the front of the cork.\u00a0 Click on the image above to enlarge it and look at the three focus points and then look at the other two points to see this softness.\u00a0 It is not much, but it does make a difference.<\/p>\n<p>Once I made the three images I brought them all into Photoshop and used the <a title=\"Stacked Focus\" href=\"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/?p=763\">stacked focus<\/a> feature to create a single image with all three areas sharp.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The first problem I ran into was consistency between images.\u00a0 I started with my camera&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[540,9,8],"tags":[252,248,10,246,249,191],"class_list":["post-969","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-garage-photography","category-outdoor-photography-tips","category-photoshop-tips","tag-blantons","tag-bourbon","tag-depth-of-field","tag-eadweard-muybridge","tag-lighting","tag-stacked-focus"],"aioseo_notices":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/969","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=969"}],"version-history":[{"count":14,"href":"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/969\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":2093,"href":"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/969\/revisions\/2093"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=969"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=969"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=969"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
