{"id":861,"date":"2013-10-19T11:28:40","date_gmt":"2013-10-19T15:28:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/?p=861"},"modified":"2017-07-23T10:08:32","modified_gmt":"2017-07-23T14:08:32","slug":"eggs-ray","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/?p=861","title":{"rendered":"Eggs-Ray"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_685\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-685\" style=\"width: 295px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/0032-Eggs-ray.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-685 \" title=\"Eggs-Ray\" src=\"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/0032-Eggs-ray-818x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Eggs-Ray\" width=\"295\" height=\"368\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-685\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Eggs-Ray<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The first question I get when people see this image is &#8220;How in the heck did you cut the egg open that way?&#8221;\u00a0 Well, I cheated.\u00a0 This isn&#8217;t a real egg, it is an alabaster egg from the town of <a title=\"Volterra Italy\" href=\"http:\/\/nvps.org\/home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Volterra, Italy<\/a>.\u00a0 Yes, this is the town of <em>Twilight<\/em> fame.\u00a0 Before that it was known as (and still is) a hotbed of alabaster sculptures.\u00a0 You can find these eggs in every size all over the town.<\/p>\n<p>This image was done with a 30 second\u00a0 exposure while painting the back of the egg with a small penlight.\u00a0 It took several tries to get the right lighting.\u00a0 I shot it with my Nikon D300 tethered to my MacBook.\u00a0 That way I was able to review my images as soon as I took them and improve my light painting skills from shot to shot.\u00a0 I was able to decide how much to light each area and angles to shine the light.\u00a0 Fun little project.<\/p>\n<p>This image took second place in a 2011 <a title=\"Northern Virginia Photographic Society\" href=\"http:\/\/nvps.org\/home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Northern Virginia Photography Club<\/a> monthly competition.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The first question I get when people see this image is &#8220;How in the heck&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[540,9],"tags":[217,214,215,216],"class_list":["post-861","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-garage-photography","category-outdoor-photography-tips","tag-alabaster","tag-egg","tag-light-painting","tag-volterra"],"aioseo_notices":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/861","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=861"}],"version-history":[{"count":5,"href":"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/861\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":2103,"href":"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/861\/revisions\/2103"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=861"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=861"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=861"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
