National Bonsai and Penjing Museum"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_306\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-306\" style=\"width: 540px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Bonsai.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-306 \" title=\"Bonsai\" src=\"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Bonsai.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"540\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Bonsai.jpg 900w, https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Bonsai-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-306\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bonsai, National Bonsai and Penjing Museum, The United States National Arboretum<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.usna.usda.gov\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The United States National Arboretum<\/a> has a lot to offer photographers almost year round. \u00a0One of my favorite spots within the grounds is the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usna.usda.gov\/Gardens\/collections\/bonsai.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Bonsai and Penjing Museum<\/a>. \u00a0Open from March through October, the museum contains amazing examples of bonsai and penjing. \u00a0In addition to the standing collection of bonsai and penjing, the museum also rotates special exhibits. \u00a0On the day I was there they had a collection of miniature azaleas.<\/p>\n<p>Photography can be a bit tricky within the museum. \u00a0Since the plants are against walls, there are some shadows to deal with when the sun is low on the horizon. \u00a0Note also that the hours for the National Bonsai and Penjing Museum (10 &#8211; 4) do not match those of the National Arboretum itself (8 &#8211; 5). \u00a0I usually arrive as the guards open the gates at 8 and roam the grounds getting those early morning shots until the Bonsai museum opens.<\/p>\n<p>Oh, be careful with your tripod legs in the special exhibits wing. \u00a0One of my legs went under the rope and tripped a motion detector which brought one of the curators running. \u00a0I received a stern lecture, apologized profusely, and had a nice talk about the museum with the curator.<\/p>\n<p>The National Bonsai and Penjing Museum is a great photography location, and a very quite and peaceful place to spend the day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The United States National Arboretum has a lot to offer photographers almost year round. \u00a0One&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[558],"tags":[109,307,111,110],"class_list":["post-303","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-washington-dc","tag-bonsai","tag-national-arboretum","tag-national-bonsai-and-penjing-museum","tag-penjing"],"aioseo_notices":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/303","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=303"}],"version-history":[{"count":9,"href":"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/303\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":2138,"href":"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/303\/revisions\/2138"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=303"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=303"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=303"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
