{"id":1605,"date":"2017-03-02T17:37:53","date_gmt":"2017-03-02T22:37:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/?p=1605"},"modified":"2017-07-23T09:30:03","modified_gmt":"2017-07-23T13:30:03","slug":"milky-way-over-darby","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/?p=1605","title":{"rendered":"Milky Way Over Darby"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_1603\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1603\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Milkyway-Over-Darby.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1603\" src=\"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Milkyway-Over-Darby-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Milkyway Over Darby\" width=\"400\" height=\"599\" srcset=\"https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Milkyway-Over-Darby-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Milkyway-Over-Darby-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Milkyway-Over-Darby-768x1151.jpg 768w, https:\/\/scottshawphotography.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Milkyway-Over-Darby.jpg 1440w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1603\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Milkyway Over Darby (click to enlarge)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Here is my very first attempt at a Milky Way image. \u00a0Capturing the Milky Way turned out to be much easier than I expected. \u00a0While I was not able to capture the peak Milky Way, it still turned out pretty well.<\/p>\n<p>There are several websites out there that will help you capture excellent Milky Way images:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/darksitefinder.com\/map\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dark Site Finder<\/a>\u00a0will help you find areas with little ambient light (dark skies) to make the Milky Way and stars really shine<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.davemorrowphotography.com\/p\/tutorial-shooting-night-sky.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dave Morrow Photography<\/a>\u00a0has tutorials, e-books, and Photoshop actions that walk through the process from equipment, set-up, capture, and post-processing. \u00a0This is an invaluable resource for night sky photography.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.photopills.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Photopills\u00a0<\/a>is a great app that has many ways to improve your photography. \u00a0In this case the <em>Augmented Reality <\/em>app will show you where and when the Milky Way rises and sets. \u00a0Use this app to schedule your night photography.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cleardarksky.com\/csk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Clear Sky Chart<\/a>\u00a0provides an accurate hour-by-hour forecast of sky coverage and other\u00a0information.\u00a0 The forecast only goes out two days, so you can&#8217;t use it to plan too far ahead. \u00a0However, it will enable you to avoid that 0300 wake-up call to capture sunrise if the skies are going to be overcast. \u00a0I used the Clear Sky webpage to plan out our schedule daily and found it to be spot on.<\/p>\n<p>Before we left for Montana, I condensed Dave&#8217;s setup and capture information into a document and &#8220;printed&#8221;
