Gilbert's Cove Anchor

Gilbert’s Cove Lighthouse Anchor (click to enlarge)

This severely rusted anchor in located on the grounds of Gilbert’s Cove lighthouse in Nova Scotia.  I am a little surprised the anchor is still connected to the pedestal given all of the rust.

One of the reasons we like to visit lighthouses is the surprising things you find in and around them.  Sometimes you drive up, the light is bad, and there is not much in the area.  In that case you take a picture of the lighthouse itself and leave.  Other times you spend a considerable amount of time on the grounds and inside the lighthouse taking pictures.  There are also times you see a great composition on the way to the lighthouse and get sidetracked.  We have learned to give ourselves plenty of time while lighthouse touring to account for such distractions.
